Abstract
Financial friction in the banking industry refers to the set of structural and institutional barriers, inefficiencies, and costs that cause the process of financial intermediation—between resource providers and credit seekers—to deviate from the ideal state of perfect financial markets. Accordingly, this study aimed to design a model for reducing financial friction in Iranian exchange-listed banks using a Fuzzy Interpretive Structural Modeling (FISM) approach. A mixed-methods (qualitative-quantitative) approach was employed for data collection. In the qualitative phase, a meta-synthesis method was used to extract the relevant indicators. In the quantitative phase, FISM was utilized for modeling purposes; data were collected using a self-interaction matrix and subsequently analyzed using MATLAB software. Following the analysis of the collected data with the assistance of experts, a four-level model was developed, in which the "information gap" emerged as the most influential indicator.
