The Financial Intelligence Paradox: Why Greater Predictive Power Does Not Necessarily Lead to Better Financial Decisions?

English

Artificial intelligence and machine learning have expanded organizations’ capacity to process large volumes of financial data and to generate increasingly accurate forecasts of sales, cash flows, credit risk, and market volatility. Yet improved predictive accuracy does not, in itself, guarantee better decisions. This editorial examines the gap between prediction and action, arguing that organizational objectives, the asymmetric costs of errors, shifting market conditions, the ways in which managers use algorithmic advice, and the quality of human oversight jointly shape realized outcomes. It then proposes a conceptual framework for evaluating intelligent financial systems that considers predictive accuracy alongside realized economic outcomes, robustness under adverse conditions, transparency, and consequences for stakeholders. The accompanying table and figure synthesize the argument conceptually and do not report new empirical data. The central claim is that technology creates durable value only when forecasts are linked to decisions that are well judged, explainable, and open to review.
